Waterproofing Hawks

Many homeowners use the words heat proofing and waterproofing as if they mean the same thing. They both protect your roof, but they solve very different problems. Knowing the difference helps you choose the right treatment.

What is waterproofing?

Waterproofing stops water from entering the roof slab, walls or tanks. It usually involves repairing cracks and applying a membrane or chemical coating that forms a sealed layer. The goal is simple: no seepage, no damp ceilings and no damage to the structure.

What is heat proofing?

Heat proofing reduces the amount of heat that passes through the roof into your rooms. Reflective coatings bounce back sunlight, while insulation slows down heat transfer. The result is a cooler top floor and less load on fans and air conditioners.

Which one do you need?

  • Leaks or damp patches? You need waterproofing first.
  • Very hot top floor? Heat proofing will make the biggest difference.
  • Both problems? Many systems combine both, giving protection from rain and heat in one treatment.
